Real Weddings: Marina & Ken

p1608618575-4

Marina and Ken were married in an interfaith Jewish and Catholic ceremony on Labor Day weekend at NOAH’S Event Venue in Naperville. While Marina got her hair and makeup done in the bridal suite early that afternoon, Ken and his groomsmen played billiards and watched sports in the groom’s room, before getting dressed (even donning adorable gray and pink argyle socks!). Michael Carr, assisted by Josh Ohms, snapped some photos of Marina’s gorgeous gown, her jewelry, and pretty pink heels while Amor In Motion captured a few goofy moments between the groom and his guys. SaniMar Decor brought NOAH’S to life with gorgeous blush and ivory florals and a stunning draped chuppah. After their intimate ceremony, Marina and Ken had a special ribbon exit surrounded by their family and friends before taking some family photos while their guests enjoyed yummy appetizers and cocktails from Chef By Request Catering. The bridal party then sipped some champagne and hopped on the Emperor Limousine party bus on their way to Cantigny to take some BREATHTAKING photos around the park. Once the bridal party returned, they made their grand entrance into the ballroom, with Music By Design getting the party started as Marina and Ken walked in to Avicci’s “Fade Into Darkness”. After cutting their three-tier, vanilla and chocolate cake filled with strawberries (their anniversary tier was carrot cake!), Marina and Ken listened to hysterical speeches from the matron of honor and best man before enjoying dinner. Their menu included a garden salad, filet of beef and petite chicken piccata, fingerling potatoes, steamed asparagus with roasted red peppers, as well as a sweets table that featured cream puffs, eclairs, napoleons, tiramisu squares, chocolate covered strawberries, mini trifles and tarts, fresh fruit, and cake pops- Marina and Ken did not want their guests to go hungry! And on top of all that, they served the ultimate late-night food: slices of Lou Malnati pizza!! Moments In Time Photo Booth was a huge hit, always full of guests donning hysterical props and signs! After the dance party, Marina and Ken headed back to the Courtyard Marriott Chicago Naperville to rest up before jet setting off to the Hawaiian islands for their honeymoon.

Mazel Tov and congratulations again, Mr. & Mrs. Kunesh!!

Real Weddings: Kathleen & Joe

col14697_1298-ZF-2356-28712-1-001-1298

Kathleen and Joe’s August wedding was very special for me because Kathleen (better known as “Huds”) and I played on the Illinois Women’s Volleyball Club together at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Kathleen and Joe, high school sweethearts, celebrated their wedding at their families’ church, St. James Parish, with their reception at the Metropolis Ballroom, both in Arlington Heights. That morning, Kathleen, her mom, and bridesmaids got ready at the Renaissance Schaumburg, with their makeup done by Angela Makeup Chicago and their hair done at Salon 117 & Essence Day SpaEssence Photo and Video captured a few silly photos of the ladies before heading to St. James in an American Coach Limousine. Cindy Platt from Brackett & Company created stunning bouquets with white garden roses, hydrangeas, sand and Elise peach spray roses, and one of my favorites: succulents! Surrounded by family and friends, Kathleen and Joe were married by their family pastor, Father Tim, before departing the church for their Chicago Trolley with an exciting sparkler exit. Then the real fun began: Kathleen, Joe, and their bridal party partied over to the Circa ’57 Diner on the first floor of the Metropolis Ballroom building for some fun retro photos, complete with milk shakes, Marilyn, and chrome furniture! Signature Transportation shuttled guests to an adorable cocktail hour at Metropolis, where the groom himself brewed over 200 beers (and root beers for those under 21) for dual-duty escort cards and favors! Tony from Spinnin’ Discs kicked off a lively dinner and reception with “Come On Eileen”, before the bride and groom ran off to the bar across the street where Chicago Blackhawks President/CEO John McDonough of the Chicago Blackhawks had his day with Lord Stanley himself- Joe even got to wear his playoff ring! Hard to top that! After a delicious dinner of homemade Italian stuffed eggplant, strawberry spinach salad, lemon sorbet, tenderloin béarnaise or macadamia halibut mango chutney, potatoes, and vegetables, Mr. and Mrs. Colmone cut their pretty layered cake and danced the night away. Guests were even treated to late night sliders and french fries before calling it a night and continuing the after-party. Congratulations Huds & Joe!! Thank you for being amazing clients and even more amazing friends!

Real Weddings: Claire & John

View More: http://christytylerphotography.pass.us/claire-john

Claire and John tied the knot at Greenhouse Loft on her grandpa’s favorite holiday: July 4th! On the same weekend the Grateful Dead rocked the city of Chicago, Claire and John celebrated their wedding, and even got to see fireworks! The morning of the wedding, Claire and her bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done at her parent’s condo, courtesy of Magnificent Bride Chicago and Makeup By Jaycie. Claire and John shared their First Look at the LaSalle Street Bank where they first met with Christy and James Tyler, the dynamic husband and wife duo behind Christy Tyler Photography, before an Ideal Charter bus brought the rest of the bridal party to meet them. Claire, John, and their bridal party ventured around Chicago, where they stopped at the Board of Trade and Kinzie Street Bridge for some fun photos. At Greenhouse Loft, Fab Flora placed beautiful blooms all around the naturally lit space, while the Artistrings string quartet prepared for the indoor ceremony. Surrounded by family and friends, Claire and John were married by Judge Tom Hogan in a sweet and heartfelt ceremony before enjoying the gorgeous weather in the outdoor courtyard. Guests enjoyed delicious appetizers from Hearty Boys Catering and sipped on Claire and John’s signature drinks, the South Side and Whiskey Buck. In lieu of a traditional guest book, Claire and John asked guests to sign vintage records they would hang in their home. For dinner, Hearty Boys served a DELICIOUS buffet for dinner, complete with buttermilk lavender fried chicken, Root Beer BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Jail Island Salmon, and Sliced Mustard and Chili Grilled Flank Steak, to start! Alli Klein from Toast & Jam got the party started with classic dance jams while the Fotio photobooth was a huge hit for guests, especially with the American flag backdrop! After dancing the night away, the new Mr. and Mrs. headed back downtown with their guests to the Hyatt Place Chicago River North.

Congratulations Claire and John! We had a BLAST working with you on your wedding day and wish you all the best!

Real Weddings: Sara & Matt

Catie Scott Studio

Ever since she was a little girl dreaming about her wedding day, Sara wanted to host her wedding in her parents’ backyard in St. Charles. After meeting the man of her dreams, Matt, at the University of Iowa, and getting engaged, they decided to turn her dreams into reality. Sara and Matt got married on an absolutely beautiful Saturday in June at Sara’s childhood church in St. Charles, Congregational United Church of Christ. In the morning, after Sara and her bridesmaids became picture-perfect with a little help from All About You Hair and Makeup Catie Scott Photography took some fun pictures of Sara and her ladies in their cute monogrammed button-up shirts before Sara shared a beautiful and emotional First Look with her dad! After their sweet ceremony, Sara and Matt got to take her dad’s Cadillac for a spin around the block before taking family photos in the church. A Touch of Class Limousine then whisked away the bridal party to the Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve, where Sara and Matt took their engagement photos. Affordable Party Tent Rentals provided four tents for dinner and cocktails, with linens provided by Grand Rental Station.  Upper Crust Catering kept the drinks flowing for Cocktail Hour as the sun set, and then served a DELICIOUS family style dinner before the bride and groom’s friends and family shared some heartfelt and hilarious toasts. Premier Entertainment started the party off right by officiating Sara and Matt’s Shoe Game, before the couple cut their adorable almond (yum!) flavored cake from Smallcakes, who also provided mini cupcakes for their guests with flavors ranging from coconut to oreo to extreme chocolate! After dancing the night away, Sara and Matt spent their wedding night at the classic Hotel Baker. Congratulations again Sara and Matt! We were so honored to be part of your special day!

Real Weddings: Alisa & Josh

First Dance Resized

On Sunday, August 17th, Alisa Levine and Josh Barbash tied the knot at the beautiful Galleria Marchetti in the River West area of Chicago. After getting ready at the Marriott Courtyard Chicago with her family, Alisa and Josh shot their First Look outside the Trump International Hotel with Shelley Anderson from Cage + Aquarium. After taking photos around downtown Chicago on a limo bus from Windy City Limousine, Alisa, Josh, and their families arrived at Galleria Marchetti for a few photos against the beautiful ivy wall in the East Courtyard where their ceremony would take place before heading inside for a private Ketubah signing. Arriving guests were greeted with a glass of lemonade and beautiful cello music from Stitely Entertainment. Once guests were seated with fans printed with the ceremony program, Rabbi Jason Levine (the bride’s brother) officiated the Jewish ceremony under a beautiful Chuppah constructed by Nadine Horwitz of Fragrant Design. Once the ceremony ended, cocktail hour began on the Courtyard Patio while the newlyweds enjoyed some private time. Guests were then invited into the gorgeous tented Pavilion, decorated with pink and red florals. After being introduced as “Mr. and Mrs. Josh and Alisa Barbash”, the couple shared their First Dance to The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand By You”. While dining on delicious medallions of beef, arctic char, and eggplant parmesan, the newlyweds listened to their families as they shared well wishes and advice for their marriage. After a spirited Horah, Alisa and Josh cut their amazing square cake from Amy Beck Cake Design, with adorable red and pink flowers cascading down the side. For favors, the couple treated guests with takeout cartons for their candy bar, complete with an amazing array of sweets from M&Ms to rock candy to Twizzlers and Jordan Almonds! While Chicago 312 kept the party going with classic dance songs, Alisa surprised Josh with his favorite treat- a pie bar complete with cherry, apple, and blueberry pies from Alliance Bakery! As the reception drew to a close, Alisa’s mom also surprised the newlyweds with flower leis to celebrate their upcoming Hawaiian honeymoon! Congratulations again, Alisa and Josh! We were so honored to be a part of your special day!

Fabulous Chicago-Themed Favors for your Wedding

Garrett's Popcorn OberweisNuts On Clark

Whether you’re a native Chicagoan or life brought you and your fiancé to the best city in the world, when planning a wedding centered around the Windy City, don’t forget to consider favors that stick with your theme. Offering your guests delicious local favors and flavors they won’t forget or absentmindedly toss in the trash is a small little detail that can have a major impact. I believe edible favors work are the most successful, and thankfully Chicago is home to some of the best food in the world! Here are some of my favorite ideas:

Garrett Popcorn

Since 1949 Garrett Popcorn has created arguaby the best handcrafted gourmet popcorn Chicago has to offer. With eight traditional flavors including Cheesecorn, Buttery, and even Macadamia CaramelCrisp, what could be better than offering a light late night snack for guests to take home? Garrett also offers seasonal recipes such as Pumpkin Spice CaramelCrisp, perfect for a fall wedding! Order Garrett’s “Create Your Own Favor Bag” for your wedding, where guests can scoop their favorite flavors into adorable favor bags!

Frango Mints

One of the oldest Chicago delicacies, Frango Mints from the State Street Macy’s (formerly Marshall Field’s) are a sweet surprise your guests will rave about for the rest of the weekend. Originally served in the classic Walnut Room at Marshall Field’s since 1929, Frango Mint truffles have remained a staple in the true Chicagoan’s diet. Prominently sold around Christmastime, you can find little square favor boxes in a variety of colors from Party City which will fit four chocolates per box.

Eli’s Cheesecake

What better way to give guests a taste of Chicago than a slice of Eli’s Cheesecake? Perhaps you’re not satisfied with just cheescake- Eli’s also offers amazing cakes and tarts such as Bavarian Apple, Limoncello, and Moscato Berry Tiramisu! Having a fall or holiday wedding? You can count on guests loving the Pumpkin or Salted Caramel Cheescake. Plus, if you’re not a fan of the traditional cake cutting, why not cut a slice of cheesecake with your hubby and send guests home with a slice of heaven?

Oberweis Ice Cream

Gelato bars were all the rage this wedding season, so why not offer guests the best ice cream Chicagoland has to offer? Whether coming from near or far, your guests will satisfy their sweet tooth with over 16 premium Oberweis ice cream flavors to choose from (plus seasonal favorites such as Pumpkin, Brandy, Egg Nog, and Peppermint). Choose two to five flavors for the big day complete with toppings and to-go cups, and your sundae bar is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser!

Affy Tapples

A Chicagoland favorite since 1948, Affy Tapple is the quintessential fall favor. Whether you’re going for the classic peanut covered apple or looking to mix things up with M&Ms or even Oreos, guests will be delighted when they realize they actually get to take home the original caramel apple at the end of the night! Order the apples in bulk from the factory store in Niles, wrap them in cellophane bags and finish it off with pretty ribbon and customized tag celebrating you and your new hubby.

Nuts On Clark

Two blocks north of Wrigley Field (GO CUBS!), Nuts On Clark is mostly known for its popcorn, but also offers nuts, candy, and dried fruits. Famous for their Caramelcorn and Cheesecorn, you can also give guests a variety of Giant Colossal Pistachios, Jumbo Cashews, Dark Chocolate Almonds, and Honey Roasted or Double Dip Chocolate Peanuts. Or give your family and friends the best of both worlds with both popcorn and nut combo! Nuts On Clark takes care of all the prep work for your favors and provides individually wrapped bags with your choice of popcorn and/or fresh roasted, mixed gourmet nuts for those late night cravings.

Fabulous Wedding Cakes

There are a lot of sweets going around this time of year, and it got me thinking about my favorite sweet- wedding cakes! I came across a few that I really liked on theknot.com, and I wanted to share.

This cake is by Take the Cake located in Chicago, and I love how the scattered sugar flowers give this an elegant and romantic look.

A white and black cake. So simple, but so sophisticated and classic. Cake by Wildflour Bakery & Cafe located in the Chicago Area.

Mini wedding cakes have been a very popular trend. I love this idea, as it creates a beautiful display and you can have multiple flavors.

Cake by Sweet Element, located in New York. Inspired by Monique Lhuillier – each cake has dressmaker details.

Late Night Snacks

Late night snacks have become a huge trend for weddings. The Slide Ride is a food truck which serves gourmet mini sliders. While at the Wish Upon A Wedding Gala held at the Millennium Hotel Knickerbocker Chicago,  I was able to sample a delicious Brie Burger, see picture of truck below. What a fun thing to bring to your wedding for your guests to enjoy. Check out more information at theslideride.com.

Wedding Favors

A big trend is donating to a charity in lieu of favors. However, favors can be fabulous if done right. I don’t think you can go wrong with something edible. And to tie meaning on something edible is perfect. Jordan Almonds have history with several different cultures and are a famous tradition. My mother is Italian, so I will share the Italian background with you. Five almonds signify wishes for the bride and groom; Health, Wealth, Happiness, Fertility and Longevity. Traditionally, these almonds were tucked in tulle bags called “bomboniere”, but any kind of personalized packaging would be beautiful. The almonds come in several different colors to correspond to your wedding palette. There you have it; tradition, history and taste! Perfect favor!

Real Weddings by Elevage Events: Michele & Trent

Elevage Events has been busy this Summer and Fall! This evening we’re posting some real wedding inspiration courtesy of Elevage Events (Emily McNeive was the day-of planner) and Michele & Trent Jurewicz.

The below are the bride’s own words…

“Michele Kravetz & Trent Jurewicz (us!) were married on 09.10.11 at The Elysian hotel in Chicago, IL with 80 adult and 12 children guests in attendance. There were 5 rooms available for use – and we utilized every square inch: One room for ceremony, two for cocktail hour, one for the kids dinner and one for the main celebration (dinner & dancing).

The theme of our special celebration was Prohibition, which was centered around the dress. When I found my dress on The Aisle, it was four sizes smaller than my typical size. Davis Imperial Cleaners in Chicago converted the dress to a perfect, glamorous fit. The decor, theme and overall vibe of the event was really wrapped around this dress which completely lived up to all expectations.

Our celebration was a beautiful love-fest filled with surprises. From the rehearsal dinner to the big day, each and every guest has commented on the emotion they felt with each turn, never knowing they could feel this way at a wedding that was not their own. We are blessed to have very thoughtful family and friends; each of which contributed in their own way to making the day personal and loving. Some key moments of surprise that stole the show were:

  • Food & Drink were the most important element for us – The Elysian did not disappoint – guests were wowed with a stunning array of passed hors d’oeuvres including Truffle Mushroom Risotto Bites, Smoked Chicken Croquettes, Lobster Tarragon Salad, Sweet Onion with Goat Cheese Tarts, Tarte Flambes and Oysters
  • Guests arrived at 5PM expecting a ceremony, but were led to a cocktail hour where they were greeted with a specialty cocktail in coupe glasses named The White City – Lillet, Gin & Lemon, glass has an absinthe wash
  • The children enjoyed an early dinner with staffed babysitting services – and were treated to several activities including cookie decorating!
  • We served an adult dinner (a selection of Maple Glazed Pork Chop or Pan Seared Skatewing, which followed a smoked tomato soup/baby arugula with oven drived tomato combo) before the ceremony, which then began at 9PM
  • Guests were handed fairy berries (light-up glowing 1-inch balls) as they entered the ceremony room, spreading intermittent light throughout the space
  • Our 7 year old nephew sang ‘All You Need is Love’ at the Ceremony
  • The kids in our family are a huge part of our happiness & laughter; and we were blown away by a surprise that was planned for us! The Groom’s sister coordinated a gifting from all 12 children to the Bride – each child had a crystal heart they handed to her during the ceremony, symbolizing them looking to her as an Aunt from now on
  • The first dance began immediately following the ceremony – right in the middle of the gathered guests
  • The groom called for a group hug after dipping his new wife at the end of dancing to Adele’s Crazy For You
  • The cake was cut at 10PM, two delicious flavors were served: chocolate buttermilk cake with chocolate ganache and lemon curd AND white chiffon cake with bavarian cream and raspberry preserves
  • Later in the evening, a special English Brown Ale was presented to the guests – brewed by a dear friend of the Bride & Groom

On the back of every placecard was this quote, which we think is a  great quote to know, understand and live by:

‘If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.’- J. R. R. Tolkien
British scholar & fantasy novelist (1892 – 1973)

Congratulations Michele and Trent! It was wonderful working with you!!
